10 Reasons Why It’s Cool To Play Pinoy Games

By Ana del Rosario

Summer is fun!  With no school work and grades to worry about, it is the season where kids enjoy playing outdoors.  I remember those times when my neighbors and I would be out of our homes by 3:00 p.m. and form groups to play Patintero.  It was girls vs. boys and the line would go as long as 20 meters.  The word “gadget”, that time, was unheard of.

Childhood memories came back last Saturday with Fun Ranch’s Larolympics.   The passion of parents to teach their children games we all grew up with like Tumbang Preso, Piko and Sipa put smiles on our faces.  It was a warm day, we were all sweaty but laughing our hearts out.  In spite of the heat, we still found it cool to play Pinoy games on a sunny day!  Here’s why:

DSC_0832

1.  We had an awesome time exercising.  The “it” during Tumbang Preso was so competitive that kids and their parents ran as fast as they could to score a point.

DSC_0835

2.  “Agawang Panyo” was played like a basketball,  with steals and unexpected passes.  Everyone learned how to strategize.

3.  Family teamwork was very much alive during Patintero.

4.  Players gained a new skill and it’s called Sipa.

5.  There’s physical bonding because families held each other, jumped up and down, hugged and kissed.

6. Parents demonstrated true sportsmanship and kids learned from their example.

7.  Waiting for the right time to enter the line during Patintero helped children increase their attention span.

8.  Sweat built our immunity.

9.  Piko taught the kids to listen, follow instructions and figure things out while parents cheered on the side.

10.  Someone once said, laughter is the best medicine.  Giggles, cheers and laughter filled Fun Ranch that day.

As mentioned during the teams’ orientation, Larolympics is my favorite event because it leaves good memories to all participants.  From mascots joining the games to winning awards, we always end this event in high spirits.

Thank you Pepsi and Lactacyd Toddler Tubs for co-presenting Larolympics.  Thumbs up to Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park and Champs Chewable Vitamins for Kids for our prizes and to Gatorade and Premier Water for keeping us hydrated that day.

When A Sale is Really A Sale

By:  Ana del Rosario
Update on this Post:  Mommy Mundo decided to cancel this weekend's sale due to typhoon Glenda. Visit our Facebook page for the next schedule which will happen in August of this year.

I am not a shopping person.  As a Marketing Manager, I always get invites to kiddie events and bazaars for moms.  And even if I am the first to hear about a great bargain, I rarely leave the events place with an item bought from that event.  My friends say that I am the hardest person to sell to (except food!). But thank God for giving me friends and relatives  who shop for me and a daughter who constantly reminds me to update my wardrobe with a big PLEASE at the end of her sentence.  Without them, I would probably be owning hideous and outdated clothes for the rest of my life.

Facade of Sale

On the first day of last year’s Mommy Mundo’s Clearance Clearout Sale, I just shrugged my shoulders when my staff reported that mommies as early as 10:00 a.m. were already shopping and left the sale around noon with bags of items in their arms.

Bugs

On the second day, it rained really hard.  And I told myself, “here goes the sale”!  Despite heavy rains,  shoppers kept arriving and left the room after an hour or two with their full eco-shopping bags.  Hmmm….

Wonder world of Toys

On the last day,  my co-workers spent their break time shopping and raved about the stuff inside.  Everyone’s “panic buying”.  What?!  There must be something in that room.  I went inside then the shopping bug hit me.

Goody’s Hair Accessories at 20-30% off.  If I remember correctly, I also received a sample product after my purchase.

Too bad I was not able to take a photo of Little Luee’s Locker’s jammies which I bought for only Php100-150 a pair.

Clearance Sale Flyer 2014

Mommy Mundo will be holding another Clearance Clearout sale this year from July 18 to 20 (part 2 in August).   Learning from last year’s experience, I will check out the sale items on the first day.  Home court advantage!  Join me this year and let’s explore the sale together.

Boo-Time!

What makes Halloween so special that moms take time to dress up their kids?  The candies, cute costumes and memories they can keep forever.

Awesome kids with their parents came to Boo-Time, last year’s Halloween party.  Tickets were sold out!  If we had true magic, we would have made our rooms bigger to accommodate everyone.

It’s always a challenge to make Halloween extra-special.

We introduced the “Tikbalang” to our amazed attendees through a story.  We also gave Brix, last year’s Junior Kadabra Cup Champion, exposure by having him perform magic to the delight of the kids.

Their expressions of happiness are enough to make our day.

Everyone (yes, even the parents) brought home loots—and we mean candies, drinks, snacks, prizes and a lot more courtesy of our generous sponsors.  Fun Ranch is truly a happy place because Kids Rule Here!

Kiddie Magic

Fun Ranch, Alabang hosted the 1st kiddie version of Kadabra Cup last September 10, 2011.

Butterfly magic by Mika.

May the force be with you.

Ella, our baby.  She’s only seven years old.

He’s floating in the air.

Kids also enjoyed the live animal encounter provided by Zoomanity Group’s Residence Inn, Tagaytay.

Sponsors went full blast too in our Kids Division.  Lucky raffle winners received pairs of slippers, entrance tickets, overnight accommodation and umbrellas.

We had so much fun working with the kids.  Their parents deserved an A+ for training them well.  Family members went all out by coming to the event and cheer for their kin.

And the winners are…

Brix (1st place), ella (2nd place) and Kevin (3rd place).

Jestler and Brix, Kadabra Cup’s 2011 Champions.

It was truly an amazing night for all families who watched both shows.  Congratulations to all our winners!

A Magical Sunday

Kadabra Cup is a family dinner show and annual magic competition organized by Fun Ranch.  It is usually held during the National Heroes Day long weekend.   For this year, we decided to have two categories, Senior and Junior Divisions.  The former was held at Ortigas while the latter at our branch in Westgate, Alabang.

Guess what popped out of these cage and box?

Girls.:)

And snakes.

Plus ten for being nationalistic. Check out our Philippine flag on his magical box.

This is Gina, the only lady magician in the group.

“Leodini”, Ruther Urquia and Dennis Daco served as technical judges.  Mommy blogger Joy Mendiola and Isidro Laforteza of Zoomanity Group represented the muggles.  For non-Harry Potter fans, muggles are non-magical people like us.:)

Judging was tough.

Kadabra Cup is our favorite event.:)

Guess who received the loudest applause?

Golden Show’s Abraham Velasco .  He was the show’s intermission number yet the kids wanted to vote him “Crowd Favorite”.   We give him a perfect 10 for showmanship.

Kadabra Cup is a perfect bonding event for the entire family.

We raffled off prizes courtesy of our generous sponsors.  Star Cruises gave away a free Singapore Cruise for 4 to one lucky winner.  Havaianas provided free pairs of slippers.  Zoomanity Group, the company behind Zoobic Safari, Pet Me Home at Tiendesitas and a lot more,  gave away free tickets to their zoo and overnight accommodation gift certificates.

Cherifer Immunomax and Memorx made sure everyone went home with free samples of their vitamins and premium item.

The show ended a bit late because we chose not to cut off Golden Show’s performance.    And the winner is…

Jestler the Magician.  And this is his signature split.

It was truly his lucky night because he bagged all the special awards like “oldest magician” and “crowd favorite”.

Beverage partner Pepsi provided our major prizes together with other sponsors like Acacia Hotel and Astoria Plaza Hotel.

Kadabra Cup is a great way to discover new talent.  As early as now, we are already making plans for next year’s show that would include changes our fans will surely love.
