10 Reasons Why It’s Cool To Play Pinoy Games

By Ana del Rosario

Summer is fun!  With no school work and grades to worry about, it is the season where kids enjoy playing outdoors.  I remember those times when my neighbors and I would be out of our homes by 3:00 p.m. and form groups to play Patintero.  It was girls vs. boys and the line would go as long as 20 meters.  The word “gadget”, that time, was unheard of.

Childhood memories came back last Saturday with Fun Ranch’s Larolympics.   The passion of parents to teach their children games we all grew up with like Tumbang Preso, Piko and Sipa put smiles on our faces.  It was a warm day, we were all sweaty but laughing our hearts out.  In spite of the heat, we still found it cool to play Pinoy games on a sunny day!  Here’s why:

1.  We had an awesome time exercising.  The “it” during Tumbang Preso was so competitive that kids and their parents ran as fast as they could to score a point.

2.  “Agawang Panyo” was played like a basketball,  with steals and unexpected passes.  Everyone learned how to strategize.

3.  Family teamwork was very much alive during Patintero.

4.  Players gained a new skill and it’s called Sipa.

5.  There’s physical bonding because families held each other, jumped up and down, hugged and kissed.

6. Parents demonstrated true sportsmanship and kids learned from their example.

7.  Waiting for the right time to enter the line during Patintero helped children increase their attention span.

8.  Sweat built our immunity.

9.  Piko taught the kids to listen, follow instructions and figure things out while parents cheered on the side.

10.  Someone once said, laughter is the best medicine.  Giggles, cheers and laughter filled Fun Ranch that day.

As mentioned during the teams’ orientation, Larolympics is my favorite event because it leaves good memories to all participants.  From mascots joining the games to winning awards, we always end this event in high spirits.

Thank you Pepsi and Lactacyd Toddler Tubs for co-presenting Larolympics.  Thumbs up to Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park and Champs Chewable Vitamins for Kids for our prizes and to Gatorade and Premier Water for keeping us hydrated that day.
